Abstract
The general two−dimensional model proposed for the structure of 180 ° domain walls is studied for the case of Permalloy films whose thickness is between 1000 and 10000 Å. The wall shape obtained by minimizing the energy with respect to the two Ritz parameters is highly asymmetric, which is in accordance with recent electron microscope observations. Such an asymmetry could be obtained before only by functions defined numerically during the energy minimization process. The wall energy for a 1000−Å−thick Permalloy film is 2.5 erg/cm2 which compares favorably with the value of 2.0 erg/cm2 computed by LaBonte to be the lowest possible wall energy in two dimensions.
