Abstract
A bee repellent, R-874 (2-hydroxyethyl-n-oetyl sulfide), provided good protection against bee poisoning when mixed with sprays of either dieldrin or Sevin® (1-napthyl methylcarbamate) in tests on blooming alfalfa. Honey bees (Apis mellifera L.) and bumblebees (Bombus spp.) in the fields were repelled effectively for 6 to 8 days when the average maximum temperature for the week following application was 71°F; for 3 to 4days when the average maximum temperature was 87°F.
