Abstract
Two cases of congenital duodenal valve formation are reported. One of them, a woman aged 59, with an 18 months'' history of intermittent pyloric obstruction and haemorrhage, has 3 hypertrophic mucosal folds in the supra-ampullary part of the descending portion. Histologically they consisted of excessive tissues wrongly arranged and conforming to the meaning of the term hamartoma (Albrecht, 1904). The proximal fold showed sliding retrograde prolapse through the pylorus. There was an ulcer crater at the summit and arterial thrombosis with haemorrhage in the submucosa of 2 folds, thrombosis without ulceration in the third. The other case is probably 1 of an ordinary incomplete diaphragm, an accidental finding in a girl of 18 without digestive problems. The radiological appearances are described in detail. The literature and aetiological hypothesis are briefly discussed. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
