Abstract
The X-irradiation of excised potato tuber discs was found to depress Rb uptake from RbCl soln (as measured with Rb86 as tracer) and to increase the rate of loss of electrolytes from the tissue (as measured by conductivity of the external soln). Relatively high doses, up to 100,000 r, were required to affect significantly ion uptake or loss. Permeability, as measured by the rate of uptake of Rb, was slightly decreased during the first few hrs. The effects found were believed best explained as damage of X-rays on an active transfer and ion retention system of the tissue. This publication has 5 references indexed in Scilit:
