Abstract
The rate constant and products of the reaction of O+(2 D,2 P) with CO2 have been measured. The measurements were carried out in a selected ion flow tube by the monitor ion method. The rate constant was found to be 1.06×10− 9 cm3 s− 1. The reaction was found to proceed by charge transfer (≥95%). This is in contrast to the reaction of the ground O+(4 S) state for which the product is O+ 2. The rate constant for the excited statereaction is the same as that for the ground statereaction and is slightly less than the collisional limiting value. Keywords
