Determination of Dichlobenil and Its Metabolite, 2,6-Dichlorobenzoic Acid, in Agricultural Crops, Fish, Soil, and Water

Abstract
A rapid and sensitive analytical method has been developed for the detection of residues of the selective herbicide, 2,6-dichlorobenzonitrile, and its possible metabolite, 2,6-dichlorobenzoic acid, in agricultural crops, fish, soil, and water. Plant extractives, which interfere with the electron capture gas chromatographic detection of these compounds, are removed by special column absorption chromatography. A limit of detectability of 0.05 ppm is obtained.
