The Effect of Influenza Immunization on Absence

Abstract
A retrospective case control study of the effectiveness of influenza immunization on “healthy workers” was undertaken in a pharmaceutical company in South East England. A total of 140 cases were matched for age, sex, occupation and department. Pre- and post-immunization certified and uncertified absence was assessed and no significant difference was detected between the two groups. It is therefore recommended that finance for improving workers' health and well-being should not be directed to influenza immunization programmes but to other health promotion strategies.
