Abstract
Two main types of actinophage, only one of which has been previously reported, which attack S. griseus, were found in shake flask and tank fermentations. Infections of fermentations with phage-sensitive strains by either of the 2 types of phage resulted in low yields of streptomycin. The 2 phage types can be distinguished by host specificity, plaque morphology and size. The latter difference was observed in electron micro-photographs. There is also a quantitative difference between the 2 types in their inactivation in dist. H2O. Strains of S. griseus resistant to both phage types were obtained, although with much greater ease for one type than the other. Keywords
