Abstract
Two methods of preparation of SnZrFg were described the first of which involved the precipitation of SnZrFg from an aqueous solution containing equimolar quantities of SnF2 and ZrF4 in a nitrogen atmosphere while the second method involved the direct fusion of equimolar quantities of SnF2 and ZrF4 Analytical data and X-ray diffraction studies confirmed the formation of a new chemical compound. Hydrolysis studies indicated that the compound is stable in aqueous solution for 48 hours at 12[degree]C. Studies of concentration and pH of aqueous solutions indicated that the pH de-decreases from 2.4 at 1.0% to 1.0 at 30.0%. Using oscillating-heating X-ray techniques crystallinity improved up to 120[degree]C and decomposition to SnO2 and ZrO2 occurred at 600C. The compound is biaxial (+) and the optical indices are [image] - 1. 682, [beta] = 1. 690, and [image]= 1.726.Keywords
