Abstract
The reasons for the acceleration of floating fibres, mentioned in a previous paper, are discussed here in greater detail. The paper indicates the importance of considering each fibre individually and shows that, when this is done, the predicted and observed fibre movements agree. The paper then goes on to discuss the possibility of controlling floating fibres. A failure of the accepted explanation of faller-bar marks in gilling is indicated and a new explanation of their formation suggested.
