Thymoma with Metastasis to the Brain

Abstract
A 43 year old woman developed signs of an intracranial space occupying lesion 30 months following surgical removal of thymoma. Thymomas are usually locally invasive mediastinal tumors and only seldom produce blood-borne or lymphogenous metastases. Metastasizing thymomas are rare and histologically cannot be differentiated from benign tumors of the thymus. Review of the literature reveals only a small number of acceptable cases. An additional case of such malignant tumor with local recurrences and metastasis to the brain has been described and successful combined surgical and x-ray treatment outlined.
