Abstract
One half of the subjects were allowed to breathe normally and one half were required to breathe at a constant rate throughout the experiment. All were told to expect a shock during number 10 in a series of 12 stimuli. One half of the subjects received one shock. All of the subjects showed an acceleration in heart rate during stimuli number 1 through 8 and a deceleration during number 10.Keywords
