Abstract
An unusual phase-reversal effect observed in the electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectrum of erbium ions in calcium fluoride crystals is explained by the nonparallelism of the static and modulating magnetic fields. The effect can occur when the spectrum of any strongly anisotropic paramagnetic species is examined in an EPR spectrometer with fixed modulation coils and a rotating magnet.
