Abstract
This work involves the development of a fiberoptic genosensor for the detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. A rapid and sensitive non-radioactive method for the detection of Mycobacterium is described. This method involves polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification of the target DNA utilizing gene specific primers labelled with fluorescein at the 5' end and hybridization of the amplified product to a species specific oligonucleotide probe sequence covalently linked to the end of a fiber. The fluorescent hybridization products are detected by laser induced fluorescence using an argon laser (488 nm). Keywords
