Abstract
Two electrophoretic variants of leucine aminopeptidase have been observed in mature soybean seeds [Glycine max (L.) Merrill, and G. soja Sieb. and Zucc.]. The two variants are inherited as codominant alleles at one locus. The genetic symbol Lap1‐a and Lap1‐b are assigned to slow (Rf 0.49) and fast (Rf 0.53) migrating zymograms, respectively. The Lap 1 enzyme is cytosol‐associated. The Lap1‐b is the most common allele in both G. max (allele frequency 0.985) and G. soja (0.879). The Lap1 and Ap (acid phosphatase) loci are found to be linked with 19.88 ± 0.01 map units between them. The Lapl locus is inherited independently of three other biochemical loci (Am3, Dia2, and Pgm1).Keywords
