Abstract
Data on consumption of beer, wine and distilled spirits were obtained by means of a 12-item questionnaire from 2303 persons (49.6% men; median age 19.7 yr, median yr of education 12.5). The consumption values were transformed into standardized T scores and a drinking profile was constructed. The profile includes 5 scales for each beverage type (frequency-usual, volume-usual, frequency-maximum, volume-maximum and volume-annual) and 2 summary scales (frequency-cumulative and the annual consumption of absolute alcohol). The test''s validity and reliability were determined. It clearly distinguished groups of alcoholics and nonalcoholics. The test is a simple, detailed and informative method for quantifying patterns of drinking. This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
