RuBP Carboxylase-Oxygenase in Field-Grown Wheat

Abstract
RuBP carboxylase-oxygenase has been studied during the vegetative cycles of three wheat cultivars. Both seasonal and daily fluctations in RuBP carboxylase seem to be associated with fraction I protein, the ratio RuBPcase to fraction I protein being quite constant during single days and throughout the season. Daily stimulation of RuBPcase, usually observed during single days and throughout the season. Daily stimulation of RuBPcase, usually observed during clear days, is prevented by shading the crop. Seasonal accumulation of the carboxylase activity is observed at the end of April, confirming data previously reported. The onset of accumulation is synchronous in the three varieties, irrespesctive of the phenoligical state. The ratio of the carboxylase to the oxygenase activity is not constant and oxygenase activity does not show seasonal accumulation of activity; on the contrary this activity does not show seasonal accumulation of vegatative cycles a lower rate if disappearence of the oxygenase activity with respect to carboxylase is apparent; this is especially evident in the phenologically delayed variety. The solar radiation and maximum and minimum air temperature are reported.
