Abstract
Partial sensory losses in the lower extremity were found in 33 of 50 patients with sciatic pain from root compression produced by protruded intervertebral discs. The 5th lumbar and first sacral were observed and each had its own characteristic but overlapping pattern extending from the spine to the foot. The areas mapped out differ from previous descriptions and an extensive discussion of recent neurophysiologic data is given in an attempt to explain the differences. Keywords
