Abstract
Two similar 2-dimensional signal representations are defined for use in signal analysis problems. The proposed procedure divides the time-frequency plane into rectangles of arbitrary length and width and assigns a certain portion of the represented signal to each such rectangle. Representations are based upon time-limited and band-limited forms of the angular prolate spheroidal functions for conceptual and mathematical reasons. Applications and numerical examples are provided. Keywords
