On the Nature of the Action Spectrum for Ultraviolet Photokeratitis

Abstract
The band shape and maximum of the action spectrum for UV photokeratitis does not reflect the band shape and maximum in absorption for the isolated chromophore. The ‘spike’ action spectrum is a difference spectrum of the absorption of the keratitis and filtering absorbers. Differential scattering also cannot explain the maximum in the photokeratitis action spectrum. Its effect is to shift the baseline in absorption with a minimal effect in shifting the position of the maximum.
