Abstract
Various mathematical analyses and methods are presented to define water quality and pollution conditions in a one-dimensional estuary, which is characteristic of many of the estuaries on the eastern coast of the United States. Three common coordinate systems are used to describe the geometry of the various estuarine systems. Different types of spatial and temporal pollutional loadings are included in the analysis. The final equations are used to define the longitudinal distribution of various pollution parameters in the estuaries of the Delaware, the East and the James Rivers. Data from both model tests and field surveys are available for comparison with the predicted profiles.
