Influence of dietary lysine content on energy utilization in pre-ruminant lambs

Abstract
Male crossbred lambs weighing 10 kg were given, by continuous abomasal infusion, one of a series of diets, equal in energy and nitrogen contents, which provided from 0·887 to 14·863 g lysine per 16 g nitrogen. Gross energy intake was l·38MJ/kg0·75 per day. Oxygen consumption and carbon dioxide production were measured using an open-circuit respirometer when the lambs weighed 12·5 kg. Neither heat production, as calculated from respiratory gas exchange and urinary nitrogen excretion, nor the gross efficiency of utilization of metabolizable energy were affected by the lysine content of the diets.This publication has 5 references indexed in Scilit:
