Abstract
CELLOIDIN embedding of human temporal bones is a time-consuming process because of the size and complexity of the specimens. The temporal bone contains numerous air spaces and delicate structures which are often not completely infiltrated by the usual methods of embedding. The present study was undertaken to develop a rapid and more efficient method of celloidin embedding of human temporal bones. Materials and Methods Eight human temporal bones, averaging 28 gm in weight and 4.3 by 3.6 by 3.0 cm in dimension, were fixed in 10% neutral buffered Formalin and decalcified in tetrasodium edetate at neutral pH as described by Gussen and Donahue.1 The end point of decalcification was determined by x-ray. The specimens were then run through graded alcohols to absolute alcohol-ether (1:1) in an autotechnicon for eight hours in each solution. The slow oscillating motion of the autotechnicon insured thorough dehydration of the specimens. Parlodion was chosenThis publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
