ULTRASONIC STUDY OF HIGH Tc SUPERCONDUCTING SYSTEM

Abstract
Ultrasonic measurements indicated that there are two structural first order-like phase transitions in the high Tc Ba-Y-Cu-Nb-O system. One is near 200K, the other is right above Tc. It is suggested the heavily suppressed pre-superconducting transition, which provides lattice instability and the soft phonon modes, gives rise to the high Tc.
