Abstract
Summary: Human complement reacts with sensitized erythrocytes in the presence of Ca++ and Mg++ to form a complex showing C′1, C′2 and C′4 activity. This complex is converted by human C′3 in the absence of divalent cations to an activated cell E*. The conversion of E* to ghosts in the human complement system is a slow process as compared to the formation of E*.
