Serum Ferritin in Hemochromatosis

Abstract
To the Editor: In his entertaining editorial in the February 5 issue of the Journal Dr. Crosby laments the loss of our "comfortable certainty" that the serum ferritin concentration would reflect accurately body iron stores in uncomplicated hemochromatosis.1 However, lest "iron buffs" be deterred by his final statement that "what might have been the perfect screening test for disorders of iron metabolism has not panned out," we wish to emphasize the point that two families only were reported by Wands et al., and the authors concluded that "in affected relatives...the serum ferritin concentration may be normal despite an abnormally . . .
