Abstract
Seven formol fixed and one fresh specimen obtained at the slaughter-house were studied both macro-scopically and microscopically. A detailed descr. of the layers of the iris is given. The fibrous connective tissue is extremely well-developed and acts as an antagonist to the sphincter muscle. Blood vessels seem to have no influence on the function of the pupil. The arrangement of the dilator muscles along the long side of the pupil differs from that of the short side; some run in a circular direction. The author tries to show how the anatomical structure may be related to the physiol. findings of W. R. Hess.
