Abstract
A method for semiquantitative evaluation of serum protein-binding sites in vitro is presented, utilizing gel immunoelectrophoresis of serum and radioactive iodinated radiographic contrast media with demonstration of the binding sites by radioautography. Evaluation of individual sera is possible by this procedure. Radiographic contrast media do not interfere with usual paper and cellulose electrophoretic patterns of sera, plasma, or whole blood. No abnormal binding sites were observed in 3 patients with reactions, nor were abnormal aggregates encountered in patients with macroglobulinemia or myeloma. Severe liver diesase or jaundice do not interfere with these patterns. One example of abnormal binding to a gamma globulin paraprotein was found. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
