Abstract
Four cases of diastatic rupture of the cecum in association with an obstructing carcinoma of the left colon are presented. Abdominal roentgenograms demonstrating massive pneumoperitoneum, dilated cecum, and distal obstruction of the colon are considered characteristic of this entity. At the time of surgery for obstructing carcinomas of the colon, the cecum should be inspected for diastatic perforations. Keywords
