Abstract
Two algorithms fur the determination of network connectivity and detection of islands in a power system are presented. Both algorithms are tested on a number of typical power systems. Effects of node ordering and matrix storage methods on the computation time are studied for both algorithms and the results are compared. Each algorithm proved to be more suitable under certain conditions. The results show both algorithms to be very fast. The connectivity of a 115 substation power system is determined in less than 25 milliseconds on a small industrial computer using the new algorithms. Keywords
