Optical Monitoring of Radio Sources--III: Further Observations of Quasars

Abstract
Results for 20 quasars are reported from the Herstmonceux programme of optical monitoring of radio sources. New variables are 3C 175 and 3C 232, and variations suspected in earlier work have been confirmed for 3C 249.1, 3C 263 and 3C 380. All quasars in this sample have now been found variable either by us or by other workers. Light curves are presented which demonstrate the difference between the ‘ optically violently variable ’ sources and the other quasars. A new major outburst is recorded for 3C 454.3 No well-defined periodicities are apparent for any quasar in the sample.Keywords
