EFFECTS OF HYPOPHYSECTOMY AND SOMATOTROPHIC HORMONE ON PLASMA VOLUME IN MALE ALBINO RATS

Abstract
When estimated by the Evans blue method, the absolute plasma volume and the ratio of plasma volume to body weight were found to be significantly lower in 5 male rats hypophysectomized from 6-9 days previously than in intact control animals. In 5 male rats hypophysectomized from 6-9 days previously and given 50 tibia units of somatotropic hormone twice daily during the survival period, a normal plasma volume and a normal ratio of plasma volume to body weight were observed.
