Abstract
The severity of siderosis, as demonstrated on histological examination of the liver was studied in 27 South African Bantu patients suffering from diseases unlikely to affect serum iron levels. The correlation between groups of patients with and without hepatic siderosis and corresponding mean serum iron levels was highly significant. Once significant haemosiderin deposits were present in the liver, no correlation was present between the level of serum iron and intensity of siderosis. Keywords
