Abstract
1. The properties of the microbial enzymes oxidatively cleaving alkyl-nitrogen bonds are reviewed. 2. The enzymes fall into three classes: oxidases, dehydrogenases and mono-oxygenases. 3. The role of these enzymes in the metabolism of amines and amino acids by bacteria is discussed. Keywords
