Abstract
By defining alcoholism in terms of the presence of a serious life problem related to drinking, clinicians can diagnose, predict the course of, and attempt to establish a realistic treatment plan for this prevalent disease in the same way that they address other serious disorders. Recognition requires a high index of suspicion.Keywords
