Kinetics of the reaction of CH3O2 with NO

Abstract
The kinetics of the reaction CH3O2+NOk1→products were studied over the temperature range 240–339 K. CH3O2 radicals were prepared by 355 nm laser photolysis of (1) azomethane in the presence of O2, or (2) Cl2 in the presence of CH4 and O2 The temporal profile of NO2, a product of Reaction (1), was followed by monitoring the laser induced fluorescence excited by the 488 nm output of a cw argon ion laser. k1 was found to be nearly temperature independent with an average value of (8.1±1.6)×10−12 cm3 molecule−1 s−1. At 298 K, k1 was independent of the pressure and the identity of the diluent gas. The yield of NO2 from Reaction (1) was directly measured to be near unity (1.06±0.24) at 298 K.
