Abstract
In order to predict the heat transfer coefficient in separated flows, the authors assumed that the heat transfer mechanism is similar to that of a heated cylinder surface rotating in air at high rotating Reynolds numbers where the flow around the cylinder is turbulent. A theoretical formula is developed for predicting heat transfer in separated flows based on this assumption. This is applied to a flat plate, a circular cylinder and a tri-angular prism placed transversely in air-stream, and an excellent agreement with the experiments has been obtained. The effect of tunnel blockage ratio has been taken into account in this theory through the base pressure parameter which is sensitive to changes of the tunnel blockage. Keywords
