Abstract
In vitro studies on the escape of radon from bone indicate that the recoil of the radon atom after the alpha decay of radium is the mechanism by which it is freed from the hydroxyapatite crystal. After methyl methacrylate embedding of ethyl alcohol fixed bone samples, no increase in radon retention occurs, indicating that with such samples no corrections are required in the interpretation of alpha track counts from autoradiographs due to changes in the retention of the alpha emitting daughters of radium. Keywords
