Abstract
An experimental population of Drosophila melanogaster is described which fluctuated widely in size. When the number of flies was increasing the frequency of the gene w increased. When the number of flies decreased the frequency of w decreased. It is pointed out that this result suggests that the cyclic fluctuations in population size that occur in nature may be accompanied by cyclic fluctuations of selection pressure and hence have pronounced genetic consequences. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
