A group experience with parents of hemophiliacs: A viable alternative to group therapy

Abstract
The type of group described in this paper has been presented as a viable alternative to the group therapy reported in the literature on comprehensive care for hemophiliacs. The essential differences between this parent education group and the traditional group therapy involves such components as allowing a focus by the parents on medical issues and basic information regarding the disorder and its treatment, as well as the encouragement of a discussion of various means of management of behavior problems by using both group members and leaders as a source of ideas for coping with these problems. These major components are in contrast with some of the more nondirective, insight‐oriented principles of group therapy.
