Abstract
Liquid antiseptics reduce surface contamination, but they do not sterilize treated objects. These agents may not prevent patient infection. Nosocomial Pseudomonas cepacia infection is discussed. The lack of effectiveness of AQACs may be due to inherent microorganism resistance; AQACs are also prone to inactivation by organic material. I and alcohol are effective alternatives.
