Terramycin Treatment of Balantidiasis in Honduras

Abstract
Summary and Conclusions Ten individuals infected with Balantidium coli responded very satisfactorily to terramycin. In all instances, symptoms disappeared quickly, and stools became negative within four days. There was no drug intolerance which necessitated discontinuance of therapy. One relapse (possible reinfection) was noted among the ten patients; this was in a 12 year old boy whose intimacy with pigs unfortunately continued after completion of his treatment. Terramycin obviously is an excellent therapeutic agent against human balantidiasis.
