Abstract
An optical fiber probe was developed for measurements of velocities and concentrations of solid particles. This probe was applied to an air-solid two-phase flow in a horizontal pipe, and distributions of velocities and concentrations were obtained over the pipe cross section. It was found that the particle concentration increases exponentially in the vertically downward direction. Corresponding to the distributions of concentrations particle velocities have unsymmetrical distributions. The flow structure becomes more unsymmetrical at low air velocities and high loading ratios. Also, the gradient of concentration is well correlated to the ratio of particle to air velocity. Keywords
