Abstract
Two hundred twenty-five malignant tumors of the nasopharynx are analyzed with a detailed staging system for the primary tumor and neck nodes. Results indicate that (a) lymphoepithelioma patients have a better prognosis than do those with squamous-cell carcinoma, (b) recurrences at the primary site and in the neck are less common in lymphoepithelioma than in squamous-cell carcinoma, (c) retreatment of a recurrence at the primary site can be rewarding, particularly in lymphoepithelioma, (d) additional radical neck dissection is not indicated unless there is evidence of active disease, and (e) patients with unclassified tumors have a poor prognosis. Keywords
