Abstract
Occasionally, after a female mosquito completes oviposition, 1 or more eggs remain in the ovaries. Christophers (1911, Paludism 2: 73–88) suggested the use of these retained eggs as a means of estimating the age of the mosquito, and Perry (1912, Paludism 5: 32–40) did so in his age grading method. This paper presents some observations on the relationship of age of the female to retention of eggs. These were made during the course of a study of the age composition of a natural population of Anopheles Quadrimaculatus Say at the Patuxent Wildlife Research Center in Maryland.
