Abstract
A single substrate unsteady-state model describing biofilm kinetics during the growth phase of biofilm is presented. The model incorporates Monod-type kinetics and diffusive mass transport. The proposed non-dimensional relationship between rate of change of biofilm thickness and substrate flux across the biofilm could be used for the estimation of unsteady-state biofilm thickness and maturation time. Effect of long term impact of changes in hydraulic load on the biofilm thickness could also be predicted by the model. Keywords
