Abstract
This paper describes two methods for jointly optimizing the weights of a single-weight per channel adaptive diversity combiner followed by a fractionally-spaced equalizer. It is shown that such a system provides an efficient and effective means of mitigating multipath distortion and cochannel interference for a wide variety of digital communication applications. Both "blind" and decision-directed weight-update algorithms are given. Keywords
