Utilization of Physico-Chemical Properties and Structural Parameters for Calculating Retention Indices of Alkylbenzenes

Abstract
This report studies relationships between parameters related to electronic polarizability, such as molar refraction, index of refraction, van der Waal's volume, and molar volume, and the retention indices of alkylbenzenes on Squalane and Carbowax 20M at 100°C. Relations are deduced from the statistical data between the aforementioned parameters and solute-phase interactions. A biparameter equation is found which can aid in the identification of components of industrial mixtures of aromatic naphthas.
