Abstract
The “ pulse-deficit ” concept of Davies is critically examined. The deficit is related to intensity of effort, but shows no threshold wrstetw figures for the first minute of activity are excluded. The 0—4 min. deficit is not correlated with lactate accumulation; further, the pulse rate continues to increase in the second five minutes of exercise. This late pulse deficit probably has more industrial significance than data for the period 0—4 min.; however, the concept then differs only marginally from the “ puissance maximale supportee”.Keywords
