Abstract
The venous recovery of intra‐arterially injected wax spheres of different diameters (average sizes 20p, 30p and 40p respectively) was determined in skinned hind leg preparations from cats. Passage of spheres into the venous outflow would indicate perfusion of large arteriovenous shunts. The results provide no support for the assumption that vasodilator nerve activity opens large arteriovenous shunts of any importance from the quantitative point of view.
